‘The Doll’ explores an unconventional relationship between man and android.
This production, brought to Australian shores for the first time from globally acclaimed Croatian playwright, Miro Gavran, challenges the idea of marriage and commitment in an ever-evolving technology-based society.
The main goal of the drama is to depict a near-future society, in an interesting and creative way, one that will intrigue audiences and leave them questioning. A thought-provoking production, playwright Miro Gavran outlines the struggles of modern, everyday relationships, in an unconventional manner.
From award-winning, and critically acclaimed writer, Miro Gavran comes the robotic romance between man and android. His works include, short stories, fiction and dramas, some of which have been translated into 35 different languages making him the most translated Croatian writer. Constantly exploring human connections and relationships, Gavran challenges both himself and the audience as he explores the seemingly perfect relationship that is lacking a connection, a human one.
Gavran plays with gender stereotypes and expectations. A journey for the pair about self-discovery, proving that there is a lot more to healthy relationships than the physical element.
This production will intrigue the audience with something fresh and innovative. It has the potential to evoke a wide response, exploring the sci-fi world, through robotic relationships and lovers.

Week Six – with 10 short plays nightly
Short+Sweet has spread the popular 10-minute format in theatre, dance, cabaret & comedy across Australia and the globe – with festivals now as far afield as Hollywood, India, Malaysia, Dubai and NZ.
Its Hollywood festival is one of the world’s go-to showcases for new talent on stage and screen.
But the original Sydney theatre festival is now in its 17th year and has a new home in Surry Hills’ Tom Mann Theatre.

Festival director Pete Malicki is a Short+Sweet legend, having written and directed for the fest for well over a decade.
This year S+S will again feature not only the judges’ voting and the People’s Choice audience votes,
but his director’s picks – all heading for the April Gala Finals.

Week 6
A number of American plays feature alongside local work in Week 6 of ‘the biggest little play festival in the world’.
There are animals, old couples, friends, families… and a Christmas fairy!

Hot on the heels of the successful international finals in Hollywood last year, the second Sydney ..
Hot on the heels of the successful international finals in Hollywood last year, the second Sydney season is about to get underway.

Since its inception last year, the Short+Sweet Film Festival has attracted record numbers of entries
from filmmakers all over Australia and the world offering a range of genres for films - all under ten minutes.
This year the film festival runs parallel with the theatre festival (see week 5 release attached)
and will showcase a range of local and international movies across four heats running every Tuesday night from 6 March 7.30pm at the Tom Mann Theatre, Surry Hills - culminating in a Finals series over the Easter weekend.

Short+Sweet Founder Mark Cleary said he was committed to delivering “a world class film festival with an A-List Hollywood finale”.
“Over the past year we have presented Short+Sweet Film Festivals in Australia, India, SE Asia
and the Middle East with the winning films presented in LA at a Gala Final,” Cleary said.
The Hollywood screening was partnered by the world-renowned Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre in LA that boasts such Hollywood heavyweights such as Mark Ruffallo, Brad Fisher and Benicio del Toro.

According to its Sydney-based festival director Greg Dolgopolov, the most important aspect of Short+Sweet is to bring local filmmakers together and in direct contact with their audiences.

is heading to Australia to headline the inaugural JUMANJI Festival.
Lil Wayne is undoubtedly one of the biggest artists in the world, he has achieved an astounding number of awards with MTV, Billboard, BMI, The Grammy's, ASCAP, Vibe Music, Ozone and more.
Alongside Lil Wayne is international heavy weight Tyga best known for his number one R&B Billboard and Grammy nominated hit single, Deuces a hugely successful collaboration with Chris Brown and Kevin McCall. Tyga went on to release further hit singles Rack City and Faded along with a series of highly acclaimed mix-tapes and albums.

American rapper, Wale will also join as a headline artist. In early 2011, Wale signed with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group where he experienced most of his success with his second studio album, Ambition released later that year and driven by singles such as Lotus Flower Bomb and Bad. The Miguel collaboration topped the R&B and Hip Hop charts and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Legendary DJ, record producer, actor and rapper DJ Mustard will also feature on the JUMANJI Festival bill along with Metro Boomin, the highly sought after DJ and producer has recently celebrated a chart-topping 2017 and Ace Hood signed to DJ Kaled's record label he is best known for his multi-platinum selling hits "Hustle Hard", "Bugatti", "Body to Body" and "We Ouches".

Franklin Shepard, a successful songwriter and movie producer in his late thirties, reviews his life, both professional and personal, especially his relationships with his best friends, Mary Flynn and Charley Kringas (his song-writing collaborator), and his two wives, Beth and Gussie. The action moves backward in time from 1976 to 1957, from the disappointments of adulthood, to the hopeful idealism of youth.
