HEIGHT OF SPRING

Event Date: 14/09/2019, 05:30 pm

Win a double pass to Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
Lee Bracegirdle directs the WPO in HEIGHT OF SPRING - a spectacular program that presents Schumann’s seasonally appropriate First Symphony,
nicknamed The Spring Symphony and pairs it with Stravinsky’s Eight Instrumental Miniatures for 15 Players – a sensational work that features 15 orchestral players in their own right!
Both the Ravel and Schumann are very difficult works and present great challenges for the orchestra;
Tzigane for example has a famous/notorious harp cadenza in it!

For these two concerts, young virtuoso violinist, Darcy Dauth joins the orchestra to perform two spectacular solo works; the sumptuous Romance by Dvorak and the hypnotic rhapsodising of Ravel’s gypsy-inspired fantasy, Tzigane.

Win a Double Pass to Wrath, Melbourne Fringe
This is the dog-eat-dog world of high stakes business and newbie Henry has just entered the hornets’ nest. Trust no one. Suspect everything. Everyone’s a threat on the ladder to success and CEO Ms Stockwood isn’t taking prisoners. So when a suspicious discovery is made in the boardroom, all hell breaks loose...

WRATH is a deliciously satirical rollercoaster that threatens to go full pelt off the rails. What is the cost of “making it?” What do we sacrifice in staying silent? Who do we become on the brink of our humanity? This subversive trip down the rabbit-hole promises a no holds barred attack on the powers that influence us. Delectably black and shamelessly irreverent, this new work from an explosive ensemble is not to be missed.

‘A belated Bar Mitzvah with some funny schtick and a wide-open heart” Chicago Tribune

“A warm, enjoyable search for roots, a search everyone in this society can identify with.” Chicago Sun-Times

Shalom and Moira Blumenthal present the Australian Premiere of THE GOD OF ISAAC, described as “a serious comedy” and a multi-dimensional love story written by celebrated American playwright James Sherman. To be directed by Moira Blumenthal THE GOD OF ISAAC plays at the Eternity Playhouse, Darlinghurst from 5 to 22 September.

It’s 1977 in Skokie, Illinois. When Isaac Adams, a second-generation American Jewish journalist, learns of a plan for a group of neo-Nazis to stage a demonstration in Skokie, Illinois, he wonders what, if anything, his involvement should be. Because Isaac was raised in a non-observant home, his Jewishness had been of no relevance to him, “being Jewish meant no more than being right-handed”.

Determined to find the truth, Isaac goes on a quest to find answers about his heritage, his mother, and himself. Consequently, it impacts his life in unexpected ways including the toll it takes on his relationship with his mother and the non-Jewish wife whom he loves.

JAMES SHERMAN
Sherman has written more than a dozen plays that have been performed worldwide including Beau Jest, Magic Time, Mr 80%, Jest a Second!, Romance in D, From Door to Door, Affluenza!, Half and Half and Jacob and Jack.

The Art Of Banksy

Event Date: 14/09/2019, 11:00 am

THE ART OF BANKSY, the world’s largest touring collection of Banksy’s works
Note: The winning tickets will be sent in the mail to the winners. The tickets will be valid for any date that the exhibition is on.
THE ART OF BANKSY, the world’s largest touring collection of Banksy’s works, will open at the Entertainment Quarter in Sydney from Friday 13th September. THE ART OF BANKSY has already generated international excitement when it visited Melbourne, Tel Aviv, Auckland, Toronto and Miami, and now this unique exhibition comes to Australia for a limited season.
THE ART OF BANKSY showcases 80 original works associated with, arguably, the most intriguing and talked-about artist in modern history. These privately-owned pieces of Banksy’s works, include canvasses, screenprints and sculptures. Whilst the touring exhibition is not authorised by Banksy, the show is curated by Steve Lazarides, the artist’s former manager and photographer.

Banksy, whose identity is the art world’s biggest secret, is an enigmatic artist and world- recognised political activist. His graffiti-influenced stencil technique, often combined with anti-establishment slogans, is immediately identifiable and never fails to generate attention and controversy. Over the years, Banksy has carried out a considerable number of "pranks" including secretly hanging his works inside various museums around the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Britain museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the American Museum of Natural History. One of the biggest stories in the art world last year was Banksy having his “Girl with Balloon” painting go through the shredder just moments after the work was sold for nearly $1.4 million at auction.
