Experience an inspiring night of original music as two of Sydney’s most versatile pianist-composers, Byron Mark and Diego Duarte, take the stage with their trios at the Annandale Creative Arts Centre.

Both artists bring years of experience performing across genres and continents, blending their deep musical knowledge into distinctive, genre-crossing compositions.

Diego Duarte Trio (7:30pm)
Colombian-Australian pianist, composer and conductor Diego Duarte leads DR J Trio, with Richard Driscoll (double bass) and James Wright (drums). Their sound explores the meeting point between jazz, classical, progressive and rock, weaving complex textures and emotive storytelling through instrumental interplay.
✨ Byron Mark Trio (8:30pm)
ARIA-nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist Byron Mark presents an energetic and expressive set featuring works from his acclaimed album Odyssey. His music fuses flamenco, Latin and jazz rhythms with classical piano roots, performed alongside Bronwyn Harrowsmith (violin/viola) and Josiah Chavez (drums). Special guest Lauren Majarrés, an acclaimed flamenco dancer, will join the trio to bring Byron’s music to life with her captivating movement and rhythmic artistry.

Comedy with a Bite, Sydney
In 1976 Bob is a student in Peking. China is opening to the world, post-Mao, and international students have arrived.

Underground, they play Beethoven and other banned music.

When a beautiful South American student attempts to seduce Bob he encounters the 'seed hunters' movement. Then in 2025 Bob discovers that his niece Bridget is also a seed hunter, one of many from around the world.

This is what Bridget has to say “If the toxic tough guys are after a world with more tough guys, we women are going to build a world with more peaceful and more intelligent children. We’re saving the world from itself.”

What happens when the families get involved and the matriarchal grandmother speaks her mind?

Hourglass Ensemble proudly premieres The Fire Always Says Yes, a powerful new song cycle by Waverley composer Anna Hirst Friedman in collaboration with Bondi poet Jessica Chapnik Kahn.
In two performances - in Woollahra and the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room - this bold work explores the story of the human heart, traversing the inevitable process of facing ourselves through birth, love, death, and transformation.

Set within a striking musical landscape, the work evokes a perpetual fire that consumes the past and purifies what lies ahead.
Special guest artist Amy Moore of The Song Company delivers a spellbinding interpretation of this deeply emotional story where the poetry strikes the spark and the music becomes the blaze.
