The Sydney Hills Shakespeare In The Park

Event Date: 27/12/2017, 07:30 pm

Sport For Jove's Outdoor Summer Theatre Season
A riotously, raucous 9th Summer Festival about service, appetites and balancing acts - spanning the full reach of comedy - from Shakespeare's dark satirical masterpiece Measure For Measure to Goldoni's Italian dish of laughs The Servant of Two Masters.

What rules your life? The law? Your conscience? Your instinct? Faith? Should we be ruled by justice or mercy? Should a government legislate your sex life, your morality? How do you responsibly answer the prompts of your deepest, darkest impulses and remain an upstanding moral citizen? Shakespeare may as well have written this play yesterday - an Elizabethan Orange Is The New Black meets A Handmaid's Tale - Measure For Measure pushes the genre of comedy to it's darkest and most biting limits. A murky and morally ambiguous exploration of desire and power that will shock audiences with it's contemporary voice, will make you laugh and make you think twice.

Directed By Lizzie Schebesta
Bella Vista Farm Park : Dec 8th, 9th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, 27th, 29th and Dec 30th (@7.30pm)

Adapted from Carlo Goldoni’s mid 18th Century Italian comedy, the Servant of Two Masters is a delicious feast of fun, following the story of an enterprising and perpetually hungry servant who endeavours to work for two masters in order to earn twice the meals! The Servant of Two Masters is Goldoni’s most popular and loved comedy to this day, and his prolific writing career left a legacy to Italian Theatre.

Adapted and Directed By Francesca Savige and George Banders
Bella Vista Farm Park : Dec 15th, 16th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 28th (@7.30pm); 30th (@3.30pm)

Botched marriages, dastardly disguises, cunning plots.... Men who are wildly unqualified for their jobs and unruly women pushed to the point of performing miracles. Join us this season for a feast of comedy - both light and dark - that will hopefully prove that out of chaos comes progress and satisfaction.

A brand new theatrical extravaganza, The Unbelievables, will fill the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall and Arts Centre Melbourne with the world’s greatest circus, magic and acrobatic performers this summer.

From the producers of The Illusionists and Circus 1903, The Unbelievables is a fast-paced entertainment spectacle jam-packed with death-defying acrobats and aerial acts, mind-blowing illusions, comedy, and award-winning ballroom dance, all backed by an incredible six-piece swing orchestra.

Hosted by renowned New York stand-up Harrison Greenbaum, the show promises a dazzling night of laughs, gasps and gravity-defying grace. For a complete VIP experience, on-stage table-seating for The Unbelievables will give a small group of ticketholders the exclusive opportunity to see the magic up close and personal.

Creative and Executive Producer Simon Painter says: “The Unbelievables takes what we have done with The Illusionists to a whole new level. We’ve travelled the globe in search of the very best entertainers from a variety of disciplines and genres. This summer, prepare to be astonished by the most talented performers on earth.”

Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Performance Danielle Harvey says: “The Contemporary Performance program is all about genre-straddling work and entertainment. The Illusionists and Circus 1903 set the standard for amazing entertainment for young and old – so get a date or gather the whole family together for an unbelievably great time.”

The Unbelievables will premiere at the Sydney Opera House before transferring to Arts Centre Melbourne. Be one of the first to see this strictly limited season before it travels around the globe.

Old 505 Theatre's final show for 2017!
"This is raw theatre. It is small scale and independent, but executed with professionalism and intensity." – Australian Stage Online

We need to tell stories – all of us do. This is a show about how words and ideas travel through time. Can the story of an entire people, or the story of just two people, transcend the centuries? And how can we be bound to them after so many years?

With ‘Knots’ our resident theatre company brings to life the final part of their trilogy of work that began with ’Twelfth Dawn’ (2014) and continued with ‘Seeing Unseen’ (2015).

"How this small team of artists turn energy, time and inspiration into a magical communal experience in an empty space, is terribly impressive" – Suzy Goes See
