Band Of Magicians

Event Date: 09/01/2014, 07:30 pm

The World's first Magic Supergroup
One year ago, four of the hottest young magicians of the moment met for the first time and the world's first magic supergroup was born.

Natural showmen, Justin Willman, Nate Staniforth, Justin Flom and Australia's own James Galea are the faces of modern magic. Working together they have created an act loaded with outstanding illusions, dazzling deceptions and astounding artistry.

Each member's fierce sense of one-upmanship drives the whole Band of Magicians to new, increasingly impossible feats, creating magic that draws on their collective talents, far surpassing what one magician can accomplish alone. Keep your wits about you for this one. It's awe-inspiring entertainment from the finest magic specialists around.

Event Date: 08/01/2014, 08:00 pm

Sydney Independent Theatre Company’s Sydney premiere of American play, WITTENBERG by David Davalos
Bringing in the new year at the Old Fitzroy Theatre in Woolloomooloo is Brevity Theatre Co in association with Sydney Independent Theatre Company (SITCO)’s Sydney premiere of multi‐award winning play, WITTENBERG by David Davalos. A literary fantasy to be relished and ingested with glee, American playwright Davalos’ philosophical and wit filled examination of reason versus faith combines and adjusts the narratives of famous literary figures such as Marlowe’s Faustus, Shakespeare’s Hamlet and the reformation’s Martin Luther, plus some famous female figures including Helen of Troy. WITTENBERG by David Davalos runs 8pm Tuesday to Saturday and 5pm Sundays from 7 ‐ 25 January 2014.

It’s 1517 and Hamlet can't pick a major. He's the star tennis player studying at Wittenberg University and has achieved favourite status between two particularly contrary faculty members. The two lecturers already engage in plenty of philosophical jousting over beers of an evening, but their witty and jovial debates escalate when they place more and
more importance on winning Hamlet over to their side of the philosophical coin. Reminiscent of Stoppard, Davalos playfully blends the real and the imaginary to create a battle of intellects, demonstrating that we have been debating the same topics for centuries.

Briana Cowlishaw Band

Event Date: 04/01/2014, 08:30 pm

Returning to Foundry616 after launching her CD in 2013
Sophisticated, edgy, and oh, so musical, Briana Cowlishaw returns to Foundry616 after launching her CD Paper Mache City in 2013.

“Her songs routinely thwart expectations of where they might go next ... Cowlishaw’s lighter-than-air voice drifts and floats, even as it tackles her songs’ harmonic twists.”
- John Shand, The Sydney Morning Herald

The band is firing and Cowlishaw sounds as if the world's hers. It just might be.

“Cowlishaw has a young woman’s voice; high, bright, clean. It’s an attractive instrument, and she uses it accurately and judiciously, delivering her lyrics persuasively. Of course, her work is superbly enhanced by the musicians surrounding her.”
-Adrian Jackson, Rhythms 2011

Tina Harrod

Event Date: 27/12/2013, 08:30 pm

Sydney jazz vocalist and songwriter
Sydney jazz vocalist and songwriter Tina Harrod is well known for her unique style and stage presence - and with the release of a third exciting album as well as headlining the Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival recently at Foundry616, the dynamic singer continues to push boundaries and blaze a path of her own.

Her acclaimed album of jazz infused covers Worksongs (2008), then the visceral and cathartic album of originals Temporary People (2010) rightly saw Harrod recognized as one of Australia’s finest singers. Now with The Revolution is Eternal Tina Harrod once again explores new territory with an album of original songs co-written with bassist/composer Jonathan Zwartz and the great LA based pianist and Hammond organ player Larry Goldings, and produced by award winning composer and piano player Stu Hunter.

‘Harrod pours herself, every inch, sinew and synapse, into the songs…she gives you goosebumps.’ John Shand, SMH
